Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, a coalition of four states and several pro-gun groups, including Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), filed a motion for summary judgement in their challenge to the Harris-Biden Administration’s Universal Registration Check rule, which could require any person who sells just one gun in a year to obtain a Federal Firearms License and conduct background checks.
Our coalition has secured multiple smaller victories since first filing the suit in May of 2024. Today’s motion asks Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk to bypass trial and immediately make a final ruling on the question of whether the ATF had the authority to push this rule through as written.
Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President, issued the following statement: Â
“The Harris-Biden ATF has been dead set on growing the number of gun owner records in their digital, searchable registry, and this rule would help to maximize that figure. GOA has been blowing the whistle on this registry for years now, and we urge the court to skip trial and promptly make a final ruling against this rule. Â
