The gun lobby\u2019s cynical manipulation of elected officials through financing of political campaign has turned Iowa into a state where the ruling majority apparently won\u2019t rest until it has stripped every reasonable restriction on owning, buying or carrying a gun. The \u201cstrict scrutiny\u201d standard for\u00a0gun rights being added to our constitution requires any restrictions on gun rights to be narrowly tailored to achieve a compelling state interest. The new passage says, \u201cThe right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right. Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.\u201d \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>And our status as a\u00a0\u201cstand your ground\u201d\u00a0state means you don\u2019t have to feel threatened before firing your weapon in public.
