(AP Photo\/Ben Gray)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-next-post-navi\">\n<p>\nNext Post Coming Soon&#8230;\u25b6\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Stacey Abrams\u2019 Democratic gubernatorial challenge is getting desperate with less than a week to go before election day.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, the Second Amendment and crime issues played a major role in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qWaPPBYOvIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>final debate<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0between Georgia\u2019s two candidates for governor.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Correct the Record<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Abrams injected pot shots and misstatements about Georgia\u2019s gun laws while addressing other questions. She criticized Republican Gov. Brian Kemp for \u201cmaking it easier\u201d for Georgians to obtain firearms and \u201cflooding the streets with guns.\u201d Gov. Kemp took note. Finally, he\u2019d had enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel I need the time to address this whole gun, firearm question because she keeps bringing it up,\u201d Gov. Kemp said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me tell you something \u2013 the law right now is the same as it was two years ago about who can lawfully carry a weapon or not. For Ms. Abrams to say that the legislation that we signed to let you protect your family, your businesses through your Second Amendment rights \u2013 it\u2019s just absolutely not true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Kemp reiterated the facts about Georgia\u2019s concealed carry law he signed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople that illegally can\u2019t carry guns, the law is the same as it was before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/georgia-gov-signs-major-constitutional-carry-law-into-effect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>constitutional carry<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0passed,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd I got news for you. The criminals? They don\u2019t care what the laws are. They already got the guns. The problem was law-abiding citizens couldn\u2019t get a dang permit from the local government because governments were shut down, they were slow-playing the permitting process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cAll I\u2019m doing is giving people the ability \u2013 if they would like to \u2013 to conceal carry to protect themselves, their property and their families. The record shows Ms. Abrams when she was in the general assembly, she co-sponsored legislation to confiscate your guns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true. As a state legislator, Abrams pushed for strict gun control laws, including enacting statewide universal background checks for private firearm transfers, instituting waiting periods for firearm purchases and imposing \u201cred flag\u201d laws lacking Due Process rights protections. A background check that kept thousands of guns off of our streets and out of the hands of dangerous people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement is flawed in many ways. For starters, NSSF has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/university-of-michigans-honorary-doctorate-in-gun-control-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>thoroughly debunked<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0the talking point used by Abrams and others on children and gun deaths. The study includes adults, aged 18 and 19, who are fully-vested in their Constitutional rights. Brian Kemp (AP Photo\/Megan Varner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Gov. Kemp did not remove a background check for Georgians to purchase a firearm. Anyone purchasing a gun at retail, from a firearm retailer, is required to submit and pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) verification. That\u2019s federal law.<\/p>\n<p>Abrams also refuses to acknowledge that criminals don\u2019t submit to background checks. A U.S. Sentencing Commission report\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guns.com\/news\/2022\/07\/19\/report-888-percent-of-firearms-offenders-sentenced-were-prohibited-possessors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shows<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0nearly 90 percent of all firearms used by convicted firearm criminals were obtained illegally, through the black market, theft or other illicit means.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>It\u2019s the Crime, Stupid.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Polls\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/sorry-gun-control-voters-dont-love-your-pet-issue\/\">show<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0crime is at the top of voters\u2019 minds. National gun control groups are spending heavily and telling law-abiding voters the opposite, that they need to give up their rights. In Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp has made his position clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say again just look at my record\u2026 I was the candidate that ran on a platform to go after the street gangs, criminals and drug cartels,\u201d the governor\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qWaPPBYOvIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve also been in the fight with local DAs, providing more resources when we\u2019ve had civil unrest, unruly people who were literally trying to burn down our capital city\u2026 and quite frankly some local prosecutors who didn\u2019t want to go after the gangs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When law-abiding Georgians felt unsafe due to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpb.org\/news\/2020\/05\/29\/atlanta-protests-turn-violent-police-cars-local-restaurants-damaged\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">violent and destructive riots<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in their cities, and soft-on-crime prosecutors, they responded by lawfully buying firearms. All told, more than 1.4 million Georgians legally purchased a firearm since 2020, according to NSSF-adjusted NICS data.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Kemp reminded undecided Georgians who care about their rights and safety they have a clear choice in one week. A\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/action.gunvote.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#GUNVOTE<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for Gov. Kemp would protect their Second Amendment rights.
