\ufeff<\/span><\/p>\n Gun legislation is beginning to move forward again in Maine, as 3 bills are scheduled to be heard before the Judiciary Committee on March 26th!<\/p>\n The pro-gun bills:<\/p>\n Although Maine has been a Constitutional carry state since 2015, the right to carry a firearm without a permit is restricted to individuals aged 21 and older. This right is also limited in certain areas, such as state parks, where the state’s “optional” carry permit is still required.<\/p>\n These infringements would be solved by passing LD 424 (HP 278)<\/strong>,\u00a0which lowers the constitutional carry age to 18, and LD 829 (SP 356) <\/strong>\u2013 <\/span>which removes the requirement that a person have a valid permit in order to carry a concealed handgun in state parks, Baxter State Park, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and Acadia National Park.<\/p>\n Alongside the two pro-gun bills is a sole anti-gun bill:<\/p>\n LD 677 (SP 292)<\/strong>, which expands the definition of a machine gun and makes it a crime to own a “rapid-fire device” which the bill defines as a device, part, or combination of parts that increases the rate of fire of a semi-automatic firearm beyond its standard rate of fire. This ban specifically references binary-triggers, trigger cranks, forced reset triggers, and bump-stocks.<\/p>\n Again, these bills are being heard before the Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, March 26th.
