Washington, D.C. \u2013\u00a0Today,\u00a0GOA-backed\u00a0legislation was\u00a0introduced\u00a0in both\u00a0chambers of Congress\u00a0that would grant national reciprocity to concealed carry permit holders\u00a0and to residents of Constitutional Carry states\u00a0who cross state lines.\u00a0This policy would gut the ability of anti-gun states to restrict\u00a0residents and\u00a0non-residents\u00a0alike\u00a0from\u00a0carrying\u00a0firearms for their personal defense.\u00a0The GOA-backed bills H.R. 38 and S. 65 were filed by Congressman Richard Hudson of North Carolina and Senator John Cornyn of\u00a0Texas\u00a0respectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Aidan Johnston,\u00a0GOA\u2019s Director of Federal Affairs,\u00a0issued the following statement:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cCongress\u00a0has the opportunity to\u00a0deliver\u00a0the greatest legislative victory for the gun rights movement in a century, and President Trump has already voiced his support.\u00a0With\u00a0all\u00a050 states\u00a0now issuing concealed carry permits, 49 states allowing nonresident carry, and 29\u00a0states with\u00a0permitless\u00a0or\u00a0Constitutional Carry, it is simply common sense\u00a0for Congress to\u00a0ensure\u00a0that each\u00a0state\u2019s\u00a0concealed carry license is valid in\u00a0every other\u00a0state.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe thank\u00a0President Trump for his\u00a0leadership on this\u00a0issue and\u00a0urge Congress to swiftly send\u00a0Sen. Cornyn\u2019s\u00a0and\u00a0Rep. Hudson\u2019s\u00a0Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act to\u00a0the President\u2019s desk to be signed.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Erich Pratt, GOA\u2019s Senior Vice President, added:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cGOA has been fighting anti-gun states in the courts for years on this issue. In New York, we recently teamed up with Newsmax\u2019s Carl Higbie to sue the state over its blanket ban on issuing permits to non-residents, and we were recently part of a lawsuit to force California to issue concealed carry permits to non-California residents as well.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhile GOA has so far been successful in moving the needle on the availability of out-of-state permits, many Americans still face daunting hurdles, and national reciprocity can drastically simplify everything.\u202fNo longer would anti-gun\u00a0jurisdictions\u00a0like Hawaii be able to use archaic and discriminatory bans to bar non-residents from carrying.
