The stakes for the Second Amendment couldn\u2019t be higher.<\/p>\n<p>Georgians watched a debate between their two U.S. Senate candidates leading up to the midterm election on Nov. 8. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and challenger Republican Herschel Walker faced off on the issues including the Second Amendment. The differences between the two are stark and the #GUNVOTE choice for Georgians is clear.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Anti-Gun, Anti-Police<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sen. Warnock has been in the Senate for only two years, a seat he won in a 2020 special election. He\u2019s already amassed an anti-gun voting record and supported defund the police policies. He\u2019s got the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/sen-warnock-ran-on-defund-the-police-but-paid-137000-for-armed-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hypocrisy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to go with it. Sen. Warnock voted to limit the rights of law-abiding Americans to protect themselves but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/sen-warnock-ran-on-defund-the-police-but-paid-137000-for-armed-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>paid big<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 more than <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/raphael-warnock-campaign-funds-personal-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$600,000<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014\u00a0for private armed security for himself.<\/p>\n<p>Debate questions were posed over rising crime and gun rights. While Sen. Warnock dodged around his record, Walker left no doubt about how he\u2019d stand up for Georgians\u2019 Second Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, any law or bill passed that will effect anyone\u2019s Second Amendment \u2013 I\u2019m not going to stand for and I won\u2019t support,\u201d Walker\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2pTlHSf8DYA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cAnd to hear Sen. Warnock talk about supporting law enforcement \u2013 it\u2019s sad\u2026 He\u2019s empowered criminals to think they\u2019re better than the police\u2026To hear him talk about that is a disgrace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walker\u2019s matter-of-factness earned him praise from Atlanta media, usually supportive of gun control. <em>Atlanta Journal Constitution<\/em> political columnist Patricia Murphy <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MurphyAJC\/status\/1581075629466095616?s=20&amp;t=HL1jvW3pHSOGf_ZFxBDSpw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Walker was \u201cprepared, aggressive and direct.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A Record to Run From<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sen. Warnock attempted to spin his record on gun rights. He claimed support for law enforcement, hoping Georgia voters forgot that he\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/georgia-senate-challengers-attack-second-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0police officers gangsters, thugs, bullies and a threat to children during his campaign two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his election to the Senate, Sen. Warnock \u2013 also a Reverend \u2013\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/sen-warnock-ran-on-defund-the-police-but-paid-137000-for-armed-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mocked<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Georgia churchgoers and decried Georgia lawmakers for passing the Safe Carry Protection Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomebody decided that they had a bright idea to pass a piece of legislation that will allow for guns and concealed weapons to be carried in churches,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Warnock added that places of worship were \u201cthe last place\u201d for firearms and gun owners who carry in church are \u201ccrazy people.\u201d Shortly after, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/video-governor-greg-abbott-presents-texas-medal-of-courage-to-jack-wilson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Wilson<\/a><\/strong>, a concealed carry permit holder and volunteer security guard used his concealed firearm to stop a murderer from inflicting unthinkable violence on fellow churchgoers during a religious service at the West Freeway Church of Christ, in White Settlement, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Warnock\u2019s anti-Second Amendment Senate record garnered him endorsements from national gun control groups. Moms Demand Action included Sen. Warnock in their earliest slate of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/momsdemandaction.org\/everytown-for-gun-safety-action-fund-announces-first-major-round-of-federal-endorsements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u201cgunsense\u201d candidates.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.everytown.org\/press\/everytown-announces-support-for-jon-ossoff-rev-raphael-warnock-in-georgia-u-s-senate-run-off-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Everytown for Gun Safety<\/strong><\/a> has too and so has the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gunsensevoter.org\/2022-endorsed-candidates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gun Sense Voter<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0gun control group.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Warnock\u2019s legislative \u201cpriorities\u201d include signing on as a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/736\/cosponsors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">co-sponsor to S. 736<\/a><\/strong>, Sen. Dianne Feinstein\u2019s (D-Calif.) \u201cassault weapons ban\u201d bill of 2021. That bill would ban the sale, manufacture, transfer, <em>or possession<\/em> of a so-called \u201cassault weapons,\u201d or semiautomatic modern sporting rifles (MSRs).<\/p>\n<p>NSSF data showed there are more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/commonly-owned-nssf-announces-over-24-million-msrs-in-circulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>24.4 million<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of these commonly-owned centerfire rifles in circulation today, more than there are Ford F-150 pickup trucks on the road.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Peach State Priorities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The ability of law-abiding Georgians to exercise their right to possess lawfully purchased firearms has been front-of-mind with the election only three weeks away. Voters supported the state legislators who passed Georgia\u2019s Constitutional Carry law that was signed by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re also voting with their wallets. Since 2020, nearly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/stacey-abrams-georgia-gunvote-hypocrisy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>1.4 million<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Georgians passed an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) verification to purchase a firearm, according to NSSF-adjusted NICS data.<\/p>\n<p>Statewide, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/brian-kemp-signs-sb-319-into-law-making-georgia-the-25th-constitutional-carry-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gov. Brian Kemp<\/a><\/strong> has made his support for the firearm industry unquestionable by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/stacey-abrams-georgia-gunvote-hypocrisy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attracting dozens of businesses<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to move to Georgia from less-friendly environments. It\u2019s meaningful to voters as their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/stacey-abrams-georgia-gunvote-hypocrisy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>paychecks have risen<\/strong><\/a>. In Georgia, that means the firearm industry supports more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/government-relations\/impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>9,000 jobs<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and has an economic impact of nearly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/government-relations\/impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>$1.8 billion<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Walker\u2019s support for continuing those strong Second Amendment traditions would be a change from Sen. Warnock.
