The suppressors, reportedly being imported into the country from China, are highly regulated in the United States under the National Firearms Act, while the switches alone are considered illegal under most circumstances as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) considers them machine guns regardless of whether they are installed on an actual firearm or not.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"497\" height=\"373\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_4_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-549805\" style=\"width:1067px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_4_0.jpg 497w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_4_0-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_4_0-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_4_0-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_4_0-265x198.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Let\u2019s be clear that \u201chighly regulated\u201d and \u201cconsidered illegal\u201d are just euphemisms for infringed upon, but I digress.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boston federal prosecutors indicated that the investigation into the websites, businesses and people illegally selling and importing the devices had been ongoing since August 2023, culminating in these recent seizures. While it is unknown how many undercover purchases were made by law enforcement during that period of time, Ketty Larco-Ward, inspector in charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service\u2019s Boston Division revealed that over 700 machine gun conversion devices, 87 illegal suppressors, 59 handguns and 46 long guns have been seized in addition to the websites.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_1_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-549806\" style=\"width:1068px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_1_0.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_1_0-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_1_0-150x101.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_1_0-560x377.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe proliferation of readily available devices which allow the illegal manufacturing of machine guns is a plague on our communities,\u201d said Larco-Ward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe seizure of these domains is a critical step in disrupting the flow of dangerous contraband that threatens public safety,\u201d Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy in Massachusetts said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s fair to say that authorities are likely to have lists of purchasers as well, which is a great reason to never participate in this sort of thing, no matter how you feel about the infringements\u2026 I mean regulations. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The packages shipped from China deceptively described their contents as inconspicuous items such as \u201cnecklaces\u201d or \u201ctoys,\u201d according to prosecutors, as \u201cmachine gun conversion\u201d or \u201csilencer\u201d might have been a little on the nose for customs. \u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"472\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_3_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-549807\" style=\"width:1067px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_3_0.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_3_0-254x300.jpg 254w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_3_0-150x177.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_3_0-300x354.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/op_full_auto_pr_3_0-356x420.jpg 356w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Predictably, authorities said in court papers that many of the products imported from China were counterfeit and featured the Glock Inc. trademark, suggesting the switches were produced by the Austrian firearm manufacturer when they were not. No big surprise here. If you were foolish enough to believe they were, then you were ripe to be swindled. But let\u2019s face it, nobody purchasing these giggle switches really cared about authenticity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ATF internal statistics suggest that despite the more than 1 million silencers legally registered under the National Firearms Act, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usconcealedcarry.com\/blog\/separating-fact-from-fiction-breaking-the-silence-on-silencers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">less than 0.003<\/a> percent are used in violent crimes. While there have been recent reports of increased incidents involving switches, these crimes are almost exclusively carried out by the sideways handgun-holding variety of delinquents who will maintain their violent lifestyles regardless of the availability of these devices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing these used for retaliatory shootings and gang-related activity and that\u2019s common all over the country,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/abc3340.com\/news\/local\/glock-switch-us-attorney-northern-alabama-district-alcohol-tobacco-firearms-atf-machine-guns-violent-crime-modified-weapons-illegal-device-danger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">said Kenny Fos<\/a>, acting assistant special agent in charge for Alabama, Nashville Field Division ATF.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s nice to see our tax dollars hard at work, perhaps authorities may want to temper the back-patting and celebratory high-fives until they are willing to take on the real issues causing crime and violence across the country, like migrant gangs, sanctuary cities, mental illness, bail reform, many times over repeat offenders and district attorneys who refuse to prosecute real criminals.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/authorities-seize-over-350-websites-importing-switches-and-suppressors-from-china\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy ATF U.S. authorities announced on September 11 that they had seized 355 websites used to sell suppressors and conversion kits, known as \u201cswitches,\u201d which are used to convert semi-automatic handguns into machine guns.
