WTHR reported<\/a>. The driver had arrived to deliver a pizza when he was confronted by two men demanding money \u201cat gunpoint.\u201d HPD stated that the driver, facing an imminent threat, pulled out his own firearm and fired, killing one of the assailants. The second suspect fled the scene.<\/p>\nThe driver was unharmed in the confrontation. HPD Sgt. Mark Holbrook commented on the incident, saying, \u201cWe\u2019re not sure how the pizza delivery went so wrong that somebody wound up getting shot, but that is what we\u2019re investigating right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maybe it went so wrong when the guys tried to rob the driver and being a legally armed Texan he said, \u201cscrew this.\u201d<\/p>\n
HPD has not confirmed whether a gun was found on the deceased suspect\u2019s body. The man who was killed was identified by his brother, Ameer White, as 21-year-old Areyeh White, although HPD has yet to officially confirm this identity.<\/p>\n
Ameer White expressed skepticism about the situation, stating, \u201cThey say he was the pizza delivery guy, but we don\u2019t have a receipt that he was buying a pizza. If you were the pizza delivery guy, why were you armed?\u201d<\/p>\n
While the loss of his brother is understandably upsetting, a better question he might ask is \u201cwhy was his brother allegedly robbing a guy simply trying to deliver a pizza?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy is a pizza delivery guy armed?\u201d may have been the last thing his brother was asking himself as he floated toward the light, upset that he had underestimated his chosen victim and pondering his own final destination.<\/p>\n
In an odd twist of words, WTHR reported in the lede of the story that \u201ca pizza delivery driver fatally shot a man after an argument\u201d but then two paragraphs later said \u201cthe driver went to the address to deliver a pizza and was confronted by two men demanding money at gunpoint.\u201d<\/p>\n
Where most logical thinking people come from, a robbery is hardly a mere \u201cargument,\u201d like they had a different of opinions. It is a crime, plain and simple. When you try to rob someone and the cops catch you, you don\u2019t get to say, \u201coh we were just having a little disagreement\u201d when the situation doesn\u2019t play out your way. It also doesn\u2019t work when your victim doesn\u2019t sit back and wait for the cops to come to his rescue.<\/p>\n
Oddly, police did say \u201cthe man who was killed was a customer.\u201d Guess in this situation, the customer \u201cwasn\u2019t\u201d right.<\/p>\n
HPD told WTHR that the case will be referred to a grand jury for further review so hopefully more details will come to light at that time to clear up for sure if this was a righteous defensive shoot or there was more to the story as the grieving brother suggests.<\/p>\n
