We celebrate that permissive concealed carry laws have become the norm, not the exception, nationwide, including the steady growth of constitutional (permitless) carry. BUT\u2026let\u2019s all be safe, okay?<\/p>\n<p>Every negligent discharge is ammo for the antis. Though accidental firearm injuries and deaths are exceedingly rare \u2014 in 2018 there were 458 unintentional firearm-related fatalities, which accounted for less than 0.33 percent of all unintentional deaths in the U.S. that year \u2014 they make the news and they shoot gun rights and, especially, carry rights in the foot.<\/p>\n<p>These are just a fraction of the news stories about negligent discharges from just the last couple of weeks:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/09\/30\/man-shoots-self-gun-show\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Man literally shoots himself in the foot at a gun show<\/span><\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/accidental-discharge-brings-reminders-gun-003700849.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAE-94AcFKYmOHm8aFFRlFwhDjVix1vfnR0KoZgC144jAAYOgRmiW-NivKQeMCtCzGKsDBwJfoKm-knWtUDvvV5WF5lZ2sQWcNNa1pm1MpXBwzzagelK593DRxRNWn75xFca4073q0QgtEFEav0ypp6VyfDsv8Ztn07VsbkYOAklm\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ND in the bathroom at a Buffalo Wild Wings<\/span><\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/man-accidentally-fires-gun-inside-arundel-mills-mall-food-court-police-say\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ND in a shopping mall food court<\/span><\/a> (covered very heavily in the news, most of which <a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/anne-arundel-county\/2022\/10\/after-gun-fired-at-arundel-mills-county-executive-says-recent-laws-make-it-more-dangerous-to-go-into-malls\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">uses it as proof that CCW laws are dangerous<\/span><\/a>)<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wandtv.com\/news\/man-recovering-from-self-inflicted-shooting-following-shots-fired-in-champaign\/article_2aa125d0-4267-11ed-9f59-2b220ff27e93.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Man shot himself in the hand<\/span><\/a> while drawing his firearm because he heard gunshots in the area<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.southtahoenow.com\/story\/09\/26\/2022\/south-lake-tahoe-man-dies-negligent-discharge-9mm-handgun-roommate-arrested-gun-cha\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ND kills South Lake Tahoe man<\/span><\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcpalm.com\/story\/news\/2022\/09\/19\/unintentional-discharge-deputys-gun-school-under-investigation\/10429095002\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">School Resource Officer NDs<\/span><\/a>. The story is that he bumped his holstered firearm with his backpack while removing the backpack, and the gun discharged.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc4.com\/news\/local-news\/taylorsville-man-accused-of-firing-gun-in-apartment-ceiling\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Man NDs into his apartment ceiling<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After seeing a couple of negligent discharge stories in my feed I did a search for \u2018gun discharge\u2019 and all of these and many more fresh stories popped up.<\/p>\n<p>Seek out training. Be careful. Replace it on your belt <em>in<\/em> its holster. Treating the gun in its holster as a single unit and avoiding drawing and holstering eliminates one of the very largest ND-inducing scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>Be safe out there, kids.
