{"id":3054,"date":"2024-03-29T20:27:39","date_gmt":"2024-03-29T20:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gunsandpride.com\/?p=3054"},"modified":"2024-03-29T20:27:39","modified_gmt":"2024-03-29T20:27:39","slug":"la-firearm-preemption-and-other-gun-bills-in-senate-judiciary-c-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsandpride.com\/?p=3054","title":{"rendered":"LA | Firearm Preemption and Other Gun Bills in Senate Judiciary C Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><\/h2>\n<p>Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 26<sup>th<\/sup> at 10:30 am, the Senate Judiciary C Committee will vote on several gun bills, including two anti-gun measures deferred from last week&#8217;s hearing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please TAKE ACTION and contact the members of the Senate Judiciary C Committee as soon as possible regarding the following gun bills. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pro-Gun Bills:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/Legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1351135\">Senate Bill <\/a>194 by Senator Blake Miguez strengthens Louisiana\u2019s firearm preemption law by further restricting the authority of local governments to regulate firearms to include their \u201cmanufacture, \u2026carrying, \u2026storage, \u2026[and] taxation;\u201d adding \u201cfirearm accessories, knives, edged weapons, or any combination thereof\u201d to the preemption statute; declaring preempted ordinances enacted by local governments before July 15, 1985, \u201cto be null and void, and of no effect;\u201d and creating a cause of action allowing individuals and organizations to file a lawsuit against any local government that violates the preemption statute.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-Gun Bills:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/Legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1351903\">Senate Bill 203<\/a> by Senator Royce Duplessis creates the office of gun violence prevention under the supervision and control of the superintendent of the Louisiana state police.\u00a0The stated function of the office is to perform gun violence prevention research and make policy recommendations to reduce gun violence in the state. Though the office is supposed to be non-partisan, this bill is authored and supported by gun control legislators and groups such as Mon Demands Action and will be nothing more than a taxpayer-funded mechanism for the creation and enforcement of rights-infringing legislation in Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/Legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1352484\">Senate Bill 256<\/a> by Senator Gary Carter is the Senator\u2019s latest attempt to pass a gun confiscation \u201cRed Flag Law\u201d in Louisiana. \u00a0As with previous versions this bill would allow the government to strip away an individual\u2019s right to keep and bear arms without being charged with, let alone convicted of a crime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Again, please TAKE ACTION and urge the committee members to SUPPORT your constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Liberty,<\/p>\n<p>Joshua S.
