Tennessee legislators have introduced bills for January\u2019s upcoming session, and some Republicans have introduced bills that should concern gun owners.<\/p>\n
And while Gov. Bill \u201cLousy Lee\u201d has said he won\u2019t pursue red flag gun confiscation this session, that has not stopped the RINO assault on your rights. Gun owners should not believe Lee has backed off his anti-gun efforts behind the scenes.<\/p>\n
GOP Representative Ryan Williams has introduced HB 1599 and HB 1600. These bills expand the category of individuals prohibited from possessing firearms under Tennessee law to those individuals found guilty of certain offenses as a juvenile.<\/p>\n
In other words, these bills will prohibit 18-25 year old adults from purchasing firearms if they have certain juvenile offenses, including misdemeanors and mental health issues.<\/p>\n
At a time when a young adult\u2019s right of self-defense is under attack, these bills echo Leftists calls to \u201craise the age\u201d to buy a firearm. One may wonder why an alleged \u201cconservative\u201d or \u201cpro-gun\u201d representative is aiding in that cause.<\/p>\n
Further, young adults aged 18-21 already suffer extra delays and scrutiny due to the misnamed and unconstitutional Bipartisan Safer Communities Act recently passed by Congress.<\/p>\n
Young adults should not be punished well into adulthood, particularly for receiving mental health treatment or committing a misdemeanor. HB 1599 and HB 1600 must be opposed.<\/p>\n
